Mercer Island itself boasts a 77-acre waterfront park known as Luther Burbank Park that features a public boat dock, fishing pier, and swimming beach. A quick drive east offers thousands of acres of hiking possibilities, like at the nearby Cascade Mountain region where you can discover wildlife, waterfalls, and incredible views. The nearby Tiger Mountain has over 80 miles of trails and is great for hikers of all skill levels, or the not too distant Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park, one of King County’s favorite parks. Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park is known for having over 50 trails, waterfalls, picnic areas, and access for both hikers and horseback riders. In winter, there are many options for down-hill and cross country skiing in the eastern mountains.
Mercer Island has had a thriving business area for over 50 years in the north end of the island that features many kinds of businesses including grocery stores, restaurants, a community center, yoga studios, coffee shops, pet supplies, and more. You can get all that you need, and want, conveniently in town. In addition to the amenities, parks, and schools, Mercer Island has town spirit! The island is a host to many annual events including its Sunday Farmers Market that runs from June to October from 10am – 3pm.
Schools: The School District of Mercer Island contains seven schools including four primary schools: Island Park Elementary, Lakeridge Elementary, West Mercer Elementary and Northwood Elementary; one Middle school: Islander Middle School; one High school: Mercer Island High School; and one alternative secondary school Crest Learning Center. Mercer Island is also home to the St. Monica School, the French American School of Puget Sound, and the Northwest Yeshiva High School.
