Lighting Trends for 2015

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: January 10, 2015

Household technology is undergoing a huge transformation and nothing is seeing a bigger change in our homes than lighting. Today, home lighting is all about lifestyle enhancements. We will control our home’s lighting to help create our environment. We will be able to use lighting to alter our mood, safeguard our home and also to save energy.
In the past, lights were a stand-alone fixture or considered an accessory in your home. That is now changing and lights are being incorporated into whole house systems to create an all-inclusive home environment that can be controlled from a single app.
For example, you may select an app from your phone or tablet called, “Relax”. That may include dimming the lights, queuing up some soft jazz and your gas fireplace magically lighting. An app called, “Cooking” could bring up the lights to full power in the kitchen, opening a tablet with tonight’s dinner recipe on it and turning on the radio or TV tuned to the evening news.
Lighting is also an essential part of a home security system. Teaming up with video cameras, motion sensors and alarms to keep your home safe and you informed of what is happening, whether you are at home or away.
With lighting taking such a front and center role in lifestyle, lighting fixtures are also changing. They are the new form of creativity and self-expression. Pendant lighting is a hot trend for 2015 with inspiration being drawn from the past in the form of simplicity almost to the point of starkness. Multi-light pendants are another important trend often incorporating several fixtures into the décor.
Warm metal-tones are making an appearance in the coming year. They range from warm copper pendants to mat brass sconces and coordinate with table and floor lamps.

American Classic Homes includes on-trend lighting in all of our homes.

How “Smart” is Your Home?

Categories: American Classic News, Home Design Trends, Home Owner Tips, New Homes, Real Estate News, Uncategorized | Posted: December 2, 2014

Homes of the Future are a Reality

Homes of the Future are a Reality

Imagine having your home act as your personal assistant…raising the temperature when you are cold, lowering the window shades before bed or creating a grocery list based on the contents of your refrigerator. This is not a page from the 1960’s cartoon, “The Jetsons”. All these things are now possible.

“Smart Home” is the latest term being used for home automation. It usually refers to a home that is equipped with heating/cooling, lighting, security and appliances that can be controlled remotely via computer or smart phone, so that you can regulate your home from anywhere. Many smart homes have built-in monitoring systems that can calculate and log usage by all connected devices. This can assist with energy-efficiency.

Some computer systems can monitor so many aspects of daily living that they actually appear to be intelligent. For example Samsung has a refrigerator (Model #RF4289HARS) that has a built-in touch screen to keep an inventory of its contents. It can also search for recipes on Epicurious and display them on the screen. The LG Smart ThinQ LFX31995ST refrigerator will communicate with your smart phone to send a grocery list. It can track the expiration dates of food items as well as recommend recipes that can be made with its’ contents. Smart ThinQ can also access your Gmail calendar or you’re your favorite Pandora tunes while you are cooking.

American Classic Homes includes the NEST thermostat in homes at Tarrington Place.

The Nest thermostat comes with integrated WiFi, You can control, schedule and monitor your home’s temperatures from anywhere in the world. Nest learns your behaviors and automatically adjusts its settings for maximum efficiency and comfort. It will tell you how much energy you’re using and remind you to change your furnace filters. Beginning with our new project in Sammamish, American Classic Homes will be including the Nest thermostat in their new homes.

Other popular smart home technologies include remote control window shades, door locks and security cameras. Landscape irrigation systems are becoming smarter able to detect if it has rained and how much and then adjusting the watering for that day.

If you are wondering what the benefits are of a smart home beyond the cool factor – think convenience, energy efficiency, security and well, of course the cool factor.
