Bellevue--A City To Live, Work, And Play
The name "Bellevue" is French for "beautiful view" which is a perfect description for this city which was voted the 2nd Best Place to Live in 2014 in the USA by USA Today. The city of Bellevue is located on the Eastside region of King County, Washington, and is across Lake Washington from Seattle. Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington and is growing in diversity, with over 80 languages spoken amongst students in the district. In 2012, Money Magazine ranked Bellevue#4 in its “Best Places to Live” article. With its proximity to the city, mountains, lake, and wine-country, it offers plenty of space for residents to explore.
The enrollment in the Bellevue School District has been on a steady incline over the last decade. The District is made up of 15 regular elementary schools, 1 Spanish Immersion elementary school, 1 Mandarin dual language elementary school, 5 regular middle schools, 4 regular high schools, and 2 choice schools. Overall there are 2,000 staff members in the District, with 380 National Board-certified teachers (more than any other District in Washington). The schools rank high in district-wide performance, and are adamant in providing college readiness courses for their high school students. Having the opportunity to attend these schools is a huge advantage for residents.
Bellevue is unique in that it is part city, part mountain-town, and part beach-town. Along Lake Washington, there are 7 Bellevue beach parks to swim in, play along, and partake in long summer days. And these beach parks aren’t tiny--Chism Beach Park alone is 18-acres!Gather your friends and family for a day on the Lake for swimming, fishing, and a picnic. You can even see the skyline and enjoy relaxing sunset. The town is very family-oriented, as is obvious with their outdoor activity selection and investment in their school district. They also have an award-winning museum for kids, KidsQuest Children’s Museum. This museum is a place for kids to explore, ask questions, and get their imaginations active. It’s an interactive museum focused on art, science, and technology, creating space for the inquisitive mind of your youth. Art is at the center of Bellevue. Not only does the neighborhood have a notable museum, The Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM), its downtown is also lined with public art. Grab an art map at City Hall and take your family on a self-guided tour through Downtown Park. The following weekend download another map to walk through the history of the town with the Early Bellevue Walking Tour, another self-guided route.
Restaurants & Shopping
In addition to the great amenities, Bellevue has an unbelievable assortment of high-end restaurants to choose from. Whether you are in the mood for burgers, a pub, a lounge, or a dimly-lit atmosphere with music, Bellevue has it. Journey 20 minutes down the road to Woodinville and experience the gifts of wine country. Take a mini “day-cation” and enjoy the wine and beer tasting rooms in the countryside. Head 20 minutes in the other direction and spend a day gathering new flowers for your home and tasting mini donuts at Pike’s Place Market in Downtown Seattle.
If shopping is your go-to passtime, Bellevue will not disappoint. The Bellevue Collection alone carries 250 different high-end stores, and is an architectural masterpiece. The Collection includes three properties in one--Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square, and Bellevue Place, all of which are connected by bridges and exquisite glass and steel. This isn’t your normal shopping center. Inside you’ll find a stone-clad wood burning furnace, water glides, and glass-domed ceiling caps. Whether you are wanting to window shop or update your wardrobe, this hub is an incredible place to walk through.
Bellevue truly is a place where you can live, work, and play. It invites adventure and exploration, with the convenience of not having to travel far.
